The Desert Sharks Triathlon Club in association with Wasatch Area Race Productions and The BASH Winter Tri will be presenting a Winter Triathlon 101 clinic. Winter Triathlon is just that...a Winter Multisport event that consists of running, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing - all performed on the packed/groomed XC ski trails. It is a perfect way to learn new sports, improve your base fitness, and expand your skills as a multi-sport athlete during the off-season. New to the sport of...don't worry, this clinic is for YOU! Saturday Bike Ride – 3/29 – South End of Valley – 8:30AM We will leave from the LDS church at 10800 South and 3200 west. We will ride to 9800 South, then out Redwood around prison up to the Draper bench, then back to start. Pace is upbeat but not excruciating. It is 28 miles round trip. There is a long steady climb from river bottoms to the bench, otherwise it is fairly flat. We have reserved the entire Crystal Hot Springs Resort from Friday afternoon through the race. There are limited campsites available and they are only available through the Active registration portal. Clinic contact is Charity Vernon, email her at charityv at desert-sharks dot com 6/25/08 - Wednesday - Open Water Swimming 101 - 6PM - East Canyon Reservoir: The Desert Sharks Triathlon Club presents our annual open water swim clinic and wetsuit demo day at East Canyon Reservoir on June 25, 2008. The clinic is free to all members. Nonmembers pay $5.00 (plus small service fee) in advance or $10 at the lake. Clinic Registration: http://www.active.com (service fee added at checkout) Are you interested in learning techniques for swimming in open water? Are you looking to improve your open water swim times? Are you interested in doing your first triathlon but the open water is intimidating? We can address all of these things any many more during the clinic. The clinic will provide safety kayaks as well as professional coaches and elite triathletes to assist in techniques and water safety. We will have a group for new swimmers/triathletes to open water and then another group of more experienced open water swimmers looking for a great workout. New for this year, we will have wetsuits available for the clinic. These suits will be provided by Wasatch Running Company (Zoot wetsuits) and SBR Sports in Orem (Blue Seventy wetsuits). If you do not have a wetsuit do not hesitate to attend the clinic and try out some of these great suits. If you already have a wetsuit this is your opportunity to evaluate a different suit. The clinic sign in will be at 6:00pm and the clinic will start promptly at 6:30pm. If you would like to demo one of the wetsuits please arrive a little early to allow extra time for proper fitting by the experts from Wasatch and SBR. Directions: Take I-80 towards Park City. Take the East Canyon exit and head up the hill. It will wind around for quite a while. When the road straightens out, you will soon come to East Canyon resort. Go right on by. You will soon hit the reservoir. Follow the road around. Eventually you will come to a stop sign. If you go right, you will end up in Henefer. Go left. We will meet in the gravel parking lot overlooking the lake. If you end up to the state park, you have gone too far. 7/10/2008 - Thursday - Running Form & Injury Prevention Clinic - 7PM - Hillcrest High School Learn how to maximize your potential and avoid injuries with BJ Christiansen. Clinic will be at the Hillcrest High School which is just off of 900 East and 7350 South. Summer 2008 (exact date TBA) - Thursday - Bike Saftey/Etiquette Clinic: Have you ever learned the basic rules of the road, are you nervous about going to group rides because you don't have a lot of experience or know basic bike safety....well this is the clinic for you. We will go over basic bike handling skills, hand signals for turning, stopping, basic bike etiquette, etc. Clinic leaders is Dianna Wright, she can be contacted at diannaw at desert-sharks dot com.
